When most people think about family cruises, Celebrity Cruises usually is not the first cruise line that comes to mind. Most travelers associate Celebrity with upscale dining, beautiful modern ships, and a more relaxed atmosphere geared toward adults. I often get this question: “Is Celebrity good for kids?” After touring the youth spaces onboard, I can honestly say I think a lot of families would be pleasantly surprised.
During our sailing, crew members told us there were around 80 kids onboard. Honestly, I would have guessed far less. Throughout the entire cruise, I rarely saw more than a handful of children at a time around the ship. That may actually sound ideal to a lot of parents. The ship still had families onboard, but it never felt chaotic, crowded, or overstimulating like some family-focused cruise lines can feel during peak seasons.
I spent time touring Camp at Sea, which is Celebrity’s kids club for ages 3-12. I was immediately impressed by how nice the space felt. It was bright, modern, and very clean without feeling overly loud or cartoonish. The design had an upscale feel like the rest of the ship while still being fun and welcoming for kids.
Camp at Sea offers scheduled programming throughout the cruise with activities based on age groups. Kids can participate in games, crafts, STEM activities, themed events, and social activities throughout the day. One thing I really liked was that the space felt more relaxed than some kids clubs I have seen on other cruise lines. It did not feel like total chaos, which I know some parents will appreciate.
I did notice that the kids club had un-hosted toddler playtime. Since Celebrity does not have a traditional nursery setup for infants and toddlers like some larger family cruise lines, they offer designated times twice per day where parents or family members can bring younger children into the kids club to play together. During this time, toddlers can enjoy the toys, books, and play areas while parents supervise them. I actually thought this was a really nice option for families with little ones because it gives toddlers a fun place to explore while also giving parents a chance to meet other families onboard.
I also toured The Basement, Celebrity’s teen club for ages 13-17. It looked like a place teens would actually want to hang out. Instead of feeling like a daycare room for older kids, it had more of a lounge vibe with gaming systems, music, comfortable seating, and space for teens to socialize independently. It felt trendy without trying too hard, which I think older kids would like.
Another fun bonus for families sailing on the Edge Class ships is definitely checking out Le Petit Chef at Le Grand Bistro. This dining experience is such a fun surprise for kids and honestly for adults too. Before each course arrives, animated characters are projected right onto the table and “prepare” your meal in front of you. It is interactive, entertaining, and one of those experiences kids will probably talk about long after the cruise is over. For families looking to add something extra special to their vacation, I think this is absolutely worth booking.
Another big stand-out to me during this cruise was how well families blended into the overall atmosphere onboard. Even though Celebrity is not considered a “kids cruise line,” families did not feel out of place at all. In fact, I think this would be an amazing option for parents who still want their children to have activities and kids clubs but also want a more elevated overall vacation experience themselves.
The Edge Class ships also naturally lend themselves to family travel because there is so much to enjoy together outside of the kids clubs. Families can spend time at the beautiful Resort Deck, enjoy incredible entertainment, try different dining venues, and explore all the unique spaces around the ship. The overall experience feels polished and relaxing while still being family-friendly.

Some families want waterslides, nonstop entertainment, and packed kids areas. Other families want something a little calmer where the kids are still entertained, but parents can also enjoy upscale dining, beautiful spaces, and a more relaxing atmosphere.
